No mate, they always sling in £10/£20/slab of beers or they'll do a favour for me, but I had no idea how much it was really costing.

 

How much are the returned favours worth? Try this - before you do your favour, just get in your head the thought that the returned favour will be worth more to you than the favour you have done and see if the returned favours get bigger!

Your probably not insured when doing favours for mates. If you have a commercial policy then it needs to be for work. Of course if you have private use aswell then you can drive it to the shops no worries, but favours for mates, is that private use or another comercial work thats not insured? Its somewhere in the middle.

 

Not that I care, its only insurance, I have helped mates move house loads of times, I love it when they think they are getting a bargain and then I turn up in a dirty LDV with some mouldy old wet woodchip in the back!! Ha Ha!!

You shouldnt put monetry values on favours IMO. Then its not a favour. Its your time you are giving up that is the favour, the cost is not so important if its a sunday. Imagine if you want to talk to them about some thing in your life, and you take up a few hours of their time? Cant put a value on that, thats what mates are for.

You know what it's like, there are a gang of us in different trades who help each other out as favours, but as Rupe says that's just for time.

 

If a sparky mate wires in a couple of new lights for me I'd pay for the parts at least.

 

I'm pretty sure my policy covers me for social, business, domestic and pleasure, but time-trial favours are definately out.

There used to be a motor trade magazine ( fleet news?) that contained all vehicle running costs up to and including small vans.
