Don't see why any company would want to supply saws for their crews to use. I've seen very few employees actually take care of company kit, perhaps if they owned it they'd take better care.

nonsense for some about right for others, a mans tools make his life easier always treat mine with respect even though i dont pay for them, crap saw is no good to anyone.

but know what your saying all the same, one guy threw a brick through the chipper at a firm i worked for just so we had to go home on a breakdown:thumbdown:

Hi all,

Does anyone on here work for any companies full time PAYE but have to use their own saws ?

I've heard of a firm that says that they dont supply saws and you have to use your own.

Is there any rules regarding this ?

Thanks for any info :001_smile:

As said above Bartletts definatly use this method. Its perfectly ok to do so, it becomes part of your employment package. So if you get 15K a year at one place or £15.5K at another but have to buy your own saw then you can compare the two employment packages quite easily to decide which is best.

As long as you are on enough to make it worthwhile buy the kit then its fine, but when looking at an employment contract you also look at holiday entitlement and other factors in order to decide if its a good offer or not, and buying your own saws is just another thing to take into account.

One thing I would say though is that the companies using this method must have a good reason for it, and it seems to suggest that they dont trust their employees.

Another example of this happening is in the mechanics trade. A fully employed mechanic would be expected to have his own general tools, but might get an allowance towards it. When he leaves for another job he takes his big snapon box with him. same principal really.

Sorry but it's cold hard fact based on employees I have seen at various companies I have subbed to. Tbh, I like the idea of each person owning their own saws. My son is a mechanic, his start up tool kit cost about £600, then he adds to it as and when, so what's the difference?

the last place i worked i was PAYE and had my own saw, i didnt mind to much. i got no allowance for it though. mind you i had no holiday pay,no sick pay, bought my own fuel... the list goes on

i think its fine to be expected to use your own equipment, just make sure your not missing out on anything your entitled to.:001_cool:
