Hi there everyone,

i have a problem with getting rid of all the brush and crap after a job that i cant use, i cant afford a chipper right now and i dont really want to pay the dump £40 to chuck a load there.

I need a cheap-ish solution to this.

I dont have enough room or time to burn it, i could hire a chipper but thats expensive.

i can pay up to 10 pounds per pickup load but thats a max figure.

I am also looking to maybe rent a yard or a piece of land if you know of any on the market.

Any ideas will help, thanks for reading..

P.S I'm based in Surrey close to Gatwick Airport.

You've got to price the job properly to include waste disposal, otherwise you're not running a viable business if you can't afford the disposal fee. Instead of paying £40/load at a normal commercial tipping facility, you should be paying about £38/ton (min of half ton at £19) at a proper green waste composting facility. KPS down near me charge £15/half ton, another facility also near me charges £19/half ton. With a pick up, that should be about your maximum amount. On top of that, add your fuel and time, and that is what you need to include in your quotes. We often find this is the quicker, cheaper and easier way to dispose of brash than taking the chipper along to jobs, esp smaller ones. We just use the trailer, chuck everything in that, go to the composting facility, weigh in and tip it.

Paying to lose it is going to cost you more than a tenner a load I'm afraid. I know of trade green waste sites at Fetcham and Keston (Biggin Hill) and they'll want £20. There must be one closer I'd have thought.

I don't mean to sound harsh mate but why not price the job properly to start with then you wouldn't have this problem. When I started I got rid of stuff to a farmer who burnt it, I went round every farm till I found one who could help. Then I started hiring a chipper and included it in the price of the job. Then I bought a chipper on finance and charged it onto each job, that's how a professional company does it. If you don't want to do that then you should seriously think if you should be doing this job.

So you want one of two things

1. Be able to under price your local competition who run the necessary kit and have the associated expenses to do the job properly

or

2. Be able to charge the same as the other companies but make more profit. Why not just do as some other less professional 'companies' do and pile it up in the field before moving the caravan to a new site.

Price the job properly!!
