Now then people, im about to put a 25" bar on my 660 and was just gonna use a stihl rollomatic e but others say i need a rollomatic es for that size saw but there is a big price difference. Or are there other bars such as oregon pro bars that are better? And where is the cheapest place for bars? f r jones are reasonable but only sell stihl. :confused1:

It will run with both, but the 660 being the power house that it is will put more wear on the nose bearing than say a 441, so the es with replaceable bar nose makes better long term sense. ie. only replace the bar nose rather than the whole bar when the bearings give up.

The stihl bearings are sealed units unlike the oregon, so you cant grease them, unless some clever arbtalk user knows of a mod?

The paint seems to fade less on stihl, but flakes off when pinched in a log imo.

I would just buy the cheaper Stihl bar.

The nose sprocket/bearing will probably outlast the rest of the bar IME.

Does anyone ever bother to get a new nose on their bar?

I would if i had a longer bar say 40" or more

Oregon bars are ok , but soft compaired to Stihl bars ! Stick with still sprocket nose

As with all manufacturers they produce a varied range of bars to suit all applications and pockets. So you need to compare like-with-like to come to a reasonable conclusion.

Stihl are the only manufacturer to produce their own bars and chain, whereas all other manufacturers (chinese copies excluded) generally obtain product from Oregon- and that includes Husqvarna and I've never heard anyone complain about their bars not being durable.

Well thats what seems to happen at the company i work for, they use the es but never replace the end anyway, just get a new bar, so i managed to get a deal on ebay for a e!
