i know what u mean, but what i meant was that at college if u didnt have enuff common sence they would just kick you off the course, thats what they dont at your college if your deemed unsafe then you were out.

i know some people want to sit about and let everyone else to do the work and take credit but the thing ive noticed in this industry is if you do that then you aint gonna get anywhere due to it being such a small an industry it just doesnt make sence why u would mess companies about

I would expect him to clear up while everyone watched.

I was told by the people at Entec( timberwolf ) to watch what is going out the chipper as much as what is going in. That way you prevent clogging up probs.

If the guy was watching what was comming out he could see it was going on the road. I suspect the training went in one ear and out the other.

This paints a very different picture to your original post!!!!!!!!!

And it could even point to YOU being at fault for putting others at risk by leaving such a worker insufficiently supervised.

I also think it would have been better to have let him go sooner, as now he may feel that this incident is the main reason he has been let go and could feel hard done by and not mend his ways.

Just my thoughts.

I think personally that we should all be responsible for our own health and safety, and that also includes the safety of our fellow workers on site, Basically in our gang we all look out for each other, besides I'm running a tree business not a creche !!!!!!!

If I spent all day supervising we wouldn't get half as much done.

I have now employed another young lad, :

I think I'm seeing a pattern. Why don't you employ more experienced staff? In many ways you are running a crèche as your employees seem to be young and inexperienced. I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't employ the absolute newbie, as everyone has to get a foot in the door somewhere; but The policy of employing young'uns is partly to blame for your problem. I'm not having a go here, I just thought it was a valid point for wider discussion.:001_smile:

Not So, All of the guy's I employ are in their twenty's with approx 3-6 years experience, and are all very capable, it's just that you have to give the young uns a chance, and they do have to start at the bottom and WORK their way up, this particular one was really not cut out for it, and during his three month probationary period showed no signs of improvement, so off he went.

I'm very confused now :confused1: You have an experienced crew, with one new starter who you all know is not up to scratch, you leave site, when you return none of the crew have stopped him from doing something stupid or even know he's done it????:confused1:
