Difference between fast tow and slow tow trailers

Well, my Sankey Wolf had "max speed 40mph" on it, but I think that is just for the benefit of them military types. It's got full size Land Rover wheels and disc brakes, and proper heavy duty leaf spring suspension and shocks. The max speed thing might be something to do with off road??!?!

Driving in the outside lane of the motorway one dark night, I was aware of a Defender coming up fast behind me. I pulled across to the middle lane only to be overtaken by a military Wolf towing a Sankey. He was going so fast it looked as though the trailer tyres were not even touching the ground! I was doing 70ish so he must have been doing 80!
