No offence taken and yes, you're right, I have a lot to learn and there will be questions I'm sure.

Picked up the 550XP today.

 

It is fantastic.

 

I know I don't really have anything to use as a comparison but it is small, light and cuts like a madman and isn't as scary loud as I thought it would be.

 

I do have a few questions though.

 

The saw came with a small tube of bearing grease and a strange red and black thing that I assume is a grease gun.

 

The operator's manual says that the needle bearings in the clutch drum need to be lubricated weekly and the bar tip sprocket needs lubricating with every refuel.

 

Are both of these items lubed with the provided grease and gun.

 

It may seem like a dumb question but the manual isn't super specific and after spending all this money i want to ensure that I maintain it correctly.

To be honest I don't lube the sprocket on the bar i only do it once when its new and that's all it gets unless the bar and chain go right in the ground. and i cant help you with the clutch as i don't have any of the new husky's yet.............

Those standard grease guns are cack - This one os the best I've used so far as it doesn't leak grease all over your toolbox. Grease Gun - New Saw Chains

 

There's two camps for greasing the bar sprocket - some do and some don't. I don't tend to do and so far have only had three or four bars spit the sprocket out in 11 years, most of the time the rails wear before then. My thoughts are the gease will attract more grit and wear it even quicker.

 

Greasing the clutch bearing bearing is dead easy but you need to make sure you clean any crud out of the end of the shaft before you try to put the grease in.

 

If you think it's cutting well now - give it a week to run in and it'll fly once the autotune sets itself up properly

 

Was using mine today in some beech thinnings and it still makes me smile
