Mark,

The problem is that getting pumped up muscles like arnie and being strong are completely different?

Do you want to look strong? - straight out GQ mag.

Or do you want to be strong??

you need to get away from the idea of training your muscles and train your nervous system. Nervous system training is all about training the body to contract harder against force.

This idea of beat up the muscles hard once ot twice the week and then rest to repair is such a western way of training is leads to inflammation and slow progress.

You don't need to rest whe training 10 reps everyday as you are never going near you max and only doing 10 reps. - Olympic lifters agree that you only have 10 good reps in you per session.

Isometrics teach your body how to contract harder but squezzing something hard for 7 - 10secs everyday - and you can get incredible strong bt doing this ( read up on Alexander Zass ) this training is similar but you are going through range of motion. = greasing a groove.

the funny thing is that when you learn how to become really strong...it comes easy.

Think about this- most of the incredible physiques are athletes - sprinters, gymnasts, american footballers etc..do you think they work so hard in gym that there muscles are sore for a day or 2 after?. you think a gymnast ot sprinter can afford to take a day or 2 off to rest muscles so he can hit them hard again? NO. An athelete needs to practice there sport daily and needs to be strong and fresh for it...so they train daily but stay away from maximum.

Sounds complicated..but its not. train as often as possible while as fresh as possible , lifting heavy with low reps and stay away from max.

I'm training hard this year to be able to eat a full strawberry pavlova accompanied by a cup of tea. I'm focused and determined so I should fulfill my goal

I find switching between tea and coffee, really helps Robert

I don't like coffee so I may have to switch from sweet to sour and eat half the pavlova then some crisps then the rest of the pavlova.

Mmmmmm that's thrown my training programme out a bit.

Thanks for the advice Liam, great thread mark

That's a good argument Martyn, I'll give it a bash and see how I get on.

Can you foodtalkers please just GROW UP.

You are all just jealous that I will be strong and buff this year and you will all be glancing at me green with envy with crumbs all over your chins.

Mark, a serious question.

What is your motivation for traning, to get fit? Strong? Look good? Or is it Conan ........

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women.

Cakes rule:thumbup:
