iv been offered this stem for carving etc, but this is the only picture i have been sent, apparently the timber is very white/pale and tough to cut through, branches snapped easily and the climber said when his spikes slipped out, the bark and cambium were very 'flakey'...No leaves etc and no other pics or info???? not sure if any of that will help as its come from a friend of a friend lol?? can anyone ID it for me so i know what im saying yes or no to???

Bit exotic maybe Steve- Looks like Beech to me!:confused1:

I'm working on the theory that any climber oughta know a beech or hornbeam.....and I wouldnt describe either of those as having flakey cambium

 

Good point Steve but we don't know why it was taken down and only have a tiny pic on my Aye phone.
