About 18 months ago, I extracted about 240 tonnes of seasoned beech for a mate. All stacked roadside, about 40mtrs up a track from the pole to the main road. We kept an eye on it, because we knew it was in a "handy" location, then one Saturday, my mate the cutter was walking his dog, and found a bloke filling up his trailer in broad daylight - as bold as you like. He asked him what he thought he was doing, and the bloke replied by saying he had been given permission by the FC. He then asked him how he got access, and he said he had been given a key!

My mate told him to put the wood back, as it was stealing, and the owner would not be happy...he unloaded his trailer, and left with his tail between his legs. My mate the cutter then reported him to the police. They paid him a visit, and he was made to pay the owner £50. Probably an isolated case, but it might cheer up the thread a bit!

Peed me off at the time cos I was being paid on volume extracted - so he was pinching from me as well!

Just received an unusual call from 'Brian' in Scotland. Claims to have 50 tonnes of beech for sale in 3m lengths. I am in Devon so clearly he hasn't done v good research. He might be legit, but if anyone has had Beech wood stolen near Livingstone in Scotland, close to Edinburgh, his number is 07979481727 & he runs lorries with grabs on.

I wonder if he's a timber faerie or if he is honest.

Tell you an easy way to slow up ones who are taking it with vehicles, was used by the farmers up in yorkshire when I was up there and was a problem with some riuding round in a truck poaching deer, what you do is get a couple of old sections of seed harrow, and lay them pointy side up in the gateway, if they get in they wont be getting it back out :thumbup1:

buy a camera they use for taking still of wildlife put them on trees takes photo os the fairie and hand to police.not much will get done but if seen you know its him knicking your wood. other trick is get a wire trap wit blank shotgun cartridge in trip wire off goes shotgun give them a nasty shock. or the harrows as other post go in do not come back out. find there motor next morning or them cold being out all night:001_tt2:

know quite alot of farmers who use that method of stopping vehichles entering, only problem is remembering which gateway they in when grass grows. caught quite a few out.

I remember an incident when a girl on a pony galloped onto a set of upside down harrows at the edge of a grass field, nasty and the pony had to be destroyed at the scene.
