HSE and AFAG hobby horses excluded; thanks for some helpful suggestions, yes I am using a 4mm file. I don't have any trouble sharpening my 3/8ths chains, just having a bad day with the picco? chain. someone (will remain nameless) has sharpended the chains on a machine, blued the teeth and melted burrs that won't file off by hand.

Unless you have access to a grinder, it is junk. grinders are great unless a muppet is operating it, get the cutter glowing red and it will harden and also cause flash around the side of the cutter, you are very unlikely to get a file to dig in to the metal and sharpen it again.

The grinder should have been brought in to contact lightly and I pulse mine on to the cutter so heat isn't built up - I also dress my grinding wheel - very simple methods but they work - yours has been moolered by a muppet:thumbdown:
