Sure, i get what you say but it will need the 60 million "joe bloggs" to spend the money to get that £750,000,000 in your quote.

 

I guess time will tell, or as they say in yorkshire "the proof`ll be in the puddin".

What about those on a fixed income who haven’t got half a grand to blow on a new telly. For them a cut in VAT is not going to put anything more into the economy but it will mean they get goods to an extra 2.5%.

 

I bet they wonder where to start spending.

I didn't quite understand an earlier post that the cost of fuel has gone up for VAT registered operators. Surely the "excluding VAT" price for diesel stays the same? I hope someone can explain this one to me (I've never heard it before)............

I would imagine the price on the forecourt won't change so instead of being able to claim back 17.5 p on your 1.00 alitre of diesel you'll only be able to claim back 15p ?

As Matt says they government has said it will increase 'other' taxes on fuel so the overall forecourt price remains the same. To those that are VAT registered it just means your fuel costs have gone up by 2.5%.

 

I've just got back from the states and petrol there is now $1.69 a GALLON. When petrol hit $4 a gallon (nearly 45p a litre) some of the Americans stopped buying fuel as it was just rediculously priced, people were going mad. At the same time we were paying the equivalent of $12 a gallon, what did we do about it?

As ever with this incompetent government, they are doing as little as possible so they can "say" they've done something, without thinking through the cost of implementation.

 

They just rush to do "something" and have no clear sense of direction.
