I Know it's been badly chopped over the years and it's far too close to the house, I have been asked to build an extension to within 1.2 meters of the trunk.

 

Do you think this is safe to cut the roots all down one side when it has such a large sail?

 

The building side of the problem is that we will have to dig down up to 3 meters to cast the footings, this brings in loads of problems and may even cause the customer to abandon the project is the costs are too great.

 

Iv'e been in discussion with Building control and the first thing we need to establish is the species as this is needed for their calculations. Even if they can persuade their neighbours to cut it back or down, there are still lots of problems.
