I know very little about roadbuilding but I have seen/heard of tyre bales being used in the lower courses in boggy areas to reduce the amount of stone needed - you can get the tyre bales for free

Is it worth looking at what the peat extraction industry use? Lot of twin wheel conversions, but also half track and full track conversions of agricultural tractors: Turf hopper machine...Ford TW20 tractor | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Only if there is a generous grant?

Otherwise I fink a 2nd Dozer/crawler ud be cheaper?

 

You could be eligible for upto 50% on the new parts but there will be no grant available on the 2nd hand dozer so I would not discount it straight away until you do the sums.

Have you considered that rubber matting used at festivals and the metal version like at the APF to gain acccess. Then use that area at the woodland for winching and extraction.

 

No idea how large the wood is so difficult to see.
