What on earth is wrong with ladders? take it out the van, against the tree, 20 odd feet up like climbing the stairs! then when you come down for a cuppa, no bother getting back up.

Nothing but have you tried access without? Once your used to it you can climb anything anywhere without having to carry cumbersome ladders, it also begins to make your life easier and more productive. If you look at my Oak vid in the video section the first branches were 30+ft up and from then on there would of been much rope over roping, once the line was in which was not long it was only minutes before we were both at the top with little energy used.

Well I have seen you blokes on video with all the stuff and it is very impressive, however I am on spikes pretty much all the time so I just get to the anchor point with the flipline, or freeclimb, Flintstones stuff I admit but at 48 too old to change.

I think the work you do most determines what techniques will suit you best, the most used tool I have is my silky pruning saw. I.m not naive enough to think ladders are a waste of time they have there place.
