If they sold you ppi whilst knowing your self employed then its been mis-sold as self employed are'nt coverd by ppi so you can also put in a claim for mis-selling as I understand it, had lots of good advice from here The Consumer Forums - Page One

That's what I went in on.

Comical really thinking about it. I remember having a conversation with the bank manager about it so it wasn't like they didn't know I was self employed!

And I actually I was employed at the time, I just said I hadnt asked for it, in my case that genuinly was the truth. I knew about on some loans and had asked not to have it, but was shocked to find out it was on my mortgage!

As I used to work for a high street bank I can tell you self employed are covered as ppi covers you for death - and self employed do die: - sickness - self employed do fall ill. Where a lot of self employed come undone is that there claims had to be backed up by their accountant and from my experience a lot of self employed put very little through their accounts so the accountant could not verify much!!

But self employed are covered.

I'm not saying ppi has not been mis-sold but I think a lot of people have mis-claimed refunds as even those that claimed on their insurance and had a payout are claiming mis-selling and getting money back! How was it mis-sold if it paid out during the term of the loan??!!

I was ' convinced ' it was a must, and if I didn't it was ' Be it on your head ' type thing.:sneaky2:

Sitting there with a pen, needing a loan, and 3 people in suits and bank uniform, of course I was going to sign:thumbdown:

Not according to the leaflet I got from Natwest after I had taken it out, its carefully worded in such a way that self employed are'nt actually covered, or at least the chances of you making as succesful claim on it are pretty much zero, though I have found out since that it is illegal to sell ppi to self employed, can't remember the exact reasons, think its in the banking regulations

Well, all I can say CSS is at Barclays self employed were covered, had claimed and were successful in receiving payouts. It certainly was not illegal to sell ppi to self employed.

I did actually try to claim on mine at one point.

There was no way I was getting a penny!

After that I never took it again.

Turns out I was right not to!

It's not "illegal"! It's immoral to put PPI onto a loan without informing the client. That's what has been happening. That's what "miss selling" is.

Also, the small print made it impossible for someone self employed to claim as claims could only be made through the paye system. So, yes, maybe self employed needed it the most but it was not designed for them and therefore a big con all round.
