you will have to wait till they are renewing the tree surgery contracts or have another contract opening they will post it on there website usually then you have to email them saying your interested in tendering etc they will send you a whole bunch of attachments of forms to fill in saying who you are what your qualifications are then about your business they will want to see your accounts etc from the last 2 years they want sites they can visit to check certain works like crown reductions crown thinning etc loads of paper work and you will need to obviously visit the sites they want done and quote the whole lot in one price. difficult to get on the first rung of the ladder as im finding out. good luck with it :thumbup1:

Ring the council switch board and ask for procurement, they will point you in the right direction. Bear in mind though most councils will allow individual managers to appoint contractors to do works of less than a certain value.. the only way to get those jobs is to be pals with the managers.

we have been in business for over 3 years now and are ready to start taking on much larger contracts, one of which would be getting involved in council work. how would i go about applying for it in my area? any advice on this would be much appriciated :001_smile: cheers.

Give your local council a phone, they should be able to help.Tell them a bit about yourself and they'll send out an application pack for an approved contractors list. fill it in then hopefully you will be invited to tender for contracts:thumbup1:

Good luck mate we do a lot of council work but it is usually sub contracted from other large Arb concerns. They have things such as millions of pounds worth of kit, health and saftey officers and all the other trimming required to take on massive contracts. It took as a lot of time and some pretty outstanding work to even get in to the offing.

Dont bother. The pay will be there but it will be cut throat business, other companies will undercut if they know your quote, you will get the stupid jobs that are a pain. Soon you will Wounder why you bothered.

Oh and the paperwork for just one job is stupid, could be a simple hedge cut that needs a book to be filled in and could take you a couple of hours to do the job.
