Back up saw

I'm looking to buy a (very) cheap back up saw to cover any breakdowns etc. The local dealers cheap saws are Mitox. Anyone used one, are they butch enough? Any other economy makes worth considering? I know any of them won't cope with a lot of heavy work but it'd be nice to have a standby if necessary.

Guy on here called Banana said he purchased a Mitox to see what they were like, he didn't like my take on coming away from the established quality brands. He also never came back with a positive or negative view:confused1:

 

From what I see, you buy a Stihl or Husky, you can get parts for around ten years, after that you can get aftermarket parts, after that you strip down old machines for parts.

 

Hey - I refurbed a 28 year old Rancher for a member recently - it wil still be going in another 20-30 years.

 

So - cheap back up saw, 023, 025 Stihl or Husky Rancher, 266, 268, all good machines and you can get them for £90 - £150, all will outlast some piece of Chinese toot and will still have decent residual price after a few more years of use.

Mitox chainsaws providing they are used for their intended purpose are far and away better then any current offering from Ryobi, McCulloch and other recognised high street brands which is what they are competing with. No they are not "butch enough" for a pro user- even as a backup saw as that is not their intended use and market- hence the low initial purchase price compared to a pro designated saw.

 

Same as any bit of machinery really. Why do you think Bosch produce drills in two different colours?

i have a solo top handel saw for my spare and to be fair it has never let me down when the stihl 200 has messed me about

the solo can sit the for 1,2,3,4 months 3 to 4 pull every time it starts and runs all day till i want to go home
