Stihl or Husqvarna?

Hi all,

 

Currently sitting my NC forestry before starting my HND arboriculture. Looking to buy my first chainsaw, spoken to a few people asking what they prefer between Husky saws and Stihl, seems to just be personal choice. What would you reccomend? Have been looking at the Husqvarna 346xp and the Stihl ms240. Any difference between quality and preformance? Any other suggestions would be great.

personally if you're looking at the ms240, id get the ms260. very versatile saw IMO especially as a first one.

agreed.....largely irrelevant how people respond to this because as you pointed out, people have their favourites. they are both good saws, but as jim said, if going for the stihl definetly pay a few quid more and get the 260

I like all husky saws (except top handle) but if you are looking for a mid range saw i think that the 346/357xp are the best on the market

Does the extra 7cc on the ms260 make a lot of difference then?

I had a 026, still have a MS260, but my 346xp is much better, in my opinion. But it is personal opinion. Other factors could tip the balance..for instance, what's your local dealer like, and what do they sell? I used to use Stihl , and the only reason I ever bought the 346 was because all of the local Stihl dealers were totally useless, because none of them had anyone who knew the product. The best saw shops in the area sold Husqy, so I swapped...

my 260 is my favorite saw. its good on the ground loads of power on the 18in bar and its good in the tree no need to take up one of the bigger saws or fumble round the log with the ms 200 never lets me down either good all round saw. husky s are another good option but i personally cant get use to the chain brake or the choke.

stihl or husky?.... both.... and at least 50cc

 

go to a dealer and handle some saws, see what feels best in your hands.....

 

 

346xp, ms360, makita dcs5000 all excellent saws.... cant really go wrong, go for what feels right, or buy all three

 

 

 

 

 

 

...or if you put me on the spot.... go new edition 346xp... it rules

A dealer was trying to get me to buy the ms280i recently , apparently it has an air injection system like the husky xp types. Anyone used one?

Think its 8.6 cc difference 260 (50.2) and 240 (41.6), you also get a decompression valve

on the 260 and a compensator for about £32.00 difference in price.

We sell 100's more 260 than 240
