Good luck with it Paul.

Might be worth trying one more diplomatic approach explaining your position, maybe using your friend as a mediator.

What happened to the chip?

Im going to speak to my mates dad tomorrow with her there so hopefully it will get sorted. Its such a shame because she is a lovely girl. Also not too hard on the eyes!

I dump the chip up at a mates farm who uses it.

Honestly thanks a lot for all the advice guys. Ill keep you posted as to what happens.

As soon as they said they wanted the large one taken down i got on the blower and found that it is on a conservation area. I cant fell it because its between the river bank and the cottage. So ill have to climb it. I reckon it will be an extra 300 on top of the 600 quoted for the small ones. Plus i have staff to pay, running the unimog with chipper etc. i Have been on the phone to a solicitor today and he has said that if they havent obtained written permission to take it down then they have to pay the full amount quoted for the small ones within 14 days or he would help me take it to the small claims court.

Told my mate this and she is going to have serious words with her old man. Aparently he has tried it on with other guys in the past and they have just taken it to avoid trouble.

Not this time mate!

Sorry but if thats true they are scum.

Hope you can come to some agreement and just chalk it up scumbags trying to pull a fast one.

Out of all the above suggestions Rupes one of fire would be the top of my list.

All points well made gents. The other ash belongs to the castle grounds next door but aparently they had permission to take it down which i was unaware of. I will try and meet them half way but if that doesnt work then i guess ill just have to bite the bullet and get on with it. I cant afford to get a bad reputation. It is a comfort to know im not the only one out there that this has happened to. Guess its a learning curve.

Written quotes from now on me thinks.

Cheers for all the advice lads and wish me luck.

Paul

Given that this customer is already stalling on paying what he already owes, I would take his word that he's got permission to fell the "large ash" on someone else's property with a large pinch of salt. I would'nt be touching that tree until I had permission in writing from the other party who actually own the tree.

Furthermore you stated that you did not know that he had already sought permission to fell this tree, that would suggest that he did not inform that he had obtained the same. If he did'nt tell you then how can he be expecting you to have included the cost for its removal in your original quote.

Sounds to me like he is trying to pull a fast one. I would get everything written down now and send him a letter outlining exactly the work that you quoted for and then attach an invoice for the works that you have carried out. I would not consider for a moment to do any further works until the outstanding amount has been settled. In your shoes I would be prepared to take the matter through the small claims courts.

Misunderstanding? Not really much to not understand about a CCJ is there? Follow the legal route.

Bullies try it on in one form or another till someone fights back. Be it the school yard or in business, the outcome is usually the same.

Punch and git on the nose - legally speaking of course. ;)

I hate the guy already and have never met him.
