out of the three above, whats the best engine to aim for in a landy? also whats an average MPG figure for each? im looking into a landy 90 and im expecting my fuel cost to double from my citroen which gets 40MPG on a bad day.

im thinking maybe aiming for a later td5 i.e. 2005 age and finding a dealer with one at a reasonable price, but the costs seem prohibitive, id like some budget to toy with it, so ive been looking at late 90s 300tdi landys.

Im not sure which is the best to choose.

thanks geoff, they are better figures than i thought, i know our 110 tdci is quite happily in the low 20s most of the time with it creeping up when empty or sat in the yard!

im looking at a 90 to replace my citroen, its becoming problem after problem atm so i want to get shut before something goes. I am reluctant to spend as i am not bringing in a huge amount, but figure i could manage to run one if the fuel figures werent too bad.

Averaged 24.99mpg over the last 6500 miles in the 110. It does have a stage 2 tune and runs on BFG muds though so sups a bit more than standard but at least half that mileage is up the M6 to Scotland.

From what I have been told you will get slightly better MPG and slightly better towing characteristics from the 300TDi but you will need a damned good tool kit and plenty of knowledge/time as they need to be kept in a very good state of service/tune. The TD5 although slightly down on MPG needs nothing more than servicing at the recommended intervals. Early TD5's suffer from oil in the engine loom which can be expensive if it is left unchecked.
