Anyone had experience of a Discovery??

Hi all forgot to say my other vehicle is a discovery which my wife owns and I just drive on the odd occasion to look like a ponce like the rest of them , wouldn't use it for work there just not mann enough !! Jap crap all the way for me yes indeedy !!

Na my truck only has two seats and what with a ten week old baby girl my wife doesnt like riding in the tipper back so I have to suffer the electric seats mirrors cd changer heated seats ( which I say are fantastic but much needed on cold leather ) but it gets her about drinks the juice a bit rapid! I do like the assisted cornering thing on it!

I have found it so easy to wind people up about the jap/ landy dilema but at the end of the day as long as they get us safely to work and help us get the job done it does not matter what we drive, Christ sake it's taken me long time to get where I am now I first started out in a 1.8 escort car when I was a student but it all comes down to a budget at the end of the day! My wife got a disco because we where expecting our first child and she has horses the only way forward really was the HSE disco and I chose my l200 tipper because it's practical! Anyway everyone stay safe and happy climbs!

Sorry.... what do you mean she won't ride in the back of the tipper....? :001_huh: Sounds like someone's spoiled! :laugh1:

She's not spoilt she's Scottish and I'm scared!!

 

I wouldn't suggest such a thing to my wife either so I know where you're coming from. :blushing:

She did let me wear the trousers for a few hours the other day when some of my friends came round....:thumbup: she was out at the time though....:blushing::lol:

Toyota Land Cruisers are a good alternative: 100's, or 80's also known by some as Amazons - these run 4.2td or 4.5/4.7 petrol engines or 70's, 90's aka Prado's 3.0td and also some 2.4td older models and 3.2 petrols.

Great bits of kit, many also have diff locks as standard, known for their reliability but definitely more expensive for parts etc - obviously need less of them.

 

Whatever you buy, look for the best you can get/afford - look on the club forums etc, as the trucks owned by fans of the brand are often better loved and cared for - true of any make /model.

had a landcruiser 90 (colorado) for the last 3 years & no complaints - better toys too heated seats are a boon after a hard day:thumbup:

Hello,

 

We have an ancient 300Tdi, its a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. There is a second gearstick so you can select low ratio and/or difflock which is desirable in snow or off road.

 

Ours seems to do quite good mileage on the rather nice roads around here, dont expect it to go very fast, but it tows a large trailer with ease & can carry a lot of stuff.

 

The underside body mounts & the bit around the door sills rust easily, also check the side roof windows - they can leak water which ends up rotting the boot floor pan. But you can always practise your welding!

 

If you get a diesel check the cam belts been changed recently as thats disastrous if it breaks.

 

Parts seem reasonable, theres a company in Devon called Difflock that does synth oil for the gearbox & transfer box as the first to second change can grind if you dont 'double-de-clutch' going 1 to 2 - a common problem. Theres plenty of suppliers for new & S/H parts on e-bay.

 

It has a heater, the seats are really comfortable & my wife aka "I dont like driving big cars but this is a truck" enjoys driving it.

 

I would say a Toyota LC would be a good alternative as they seem pretty reliable
