There is no issue with importing it.

I bring stuff into France regularly and many friends export too.

No tax issues at all.

However, never try to sneak a chainsaw onto a ferry in your hand luggage...

Actually, I find it amazing that something in France is cheaper than in the U.K

Second hand goods here seem to hold their value.

Ah yes, I guesss I missed a trick there with it being part of the EU, so yeah no worries I guess.

Ive never done it before so i didn't know if I had to drive into a VOSA type depot to declare my goods?!

And no, I definatley wouldn't be sneaking a MS361 into my hand luggage- haven't yet had a gun pointed at me, and I don't plan on it neither!

Hi all,

i have taken a chainsaw over on the ferries a couple of times in the back of the car. They are classed as dangerous items, so you are supposed to tell the ferry company you are carrying them in advance, which I did once and no one seemed too interested.

I just removed the bar & drained all the fuel so they seemed OK with that.

Incidentally Brittany Ferries charge a bit more if your trailer is over 3m, try LD lines or the tunnel is reasonable this time of year.
