but as long as you don't take the piss i can't see a problem,if i had my own machine i would go for them

It's when the metal of the blades get as hard as you say that the risk of cracking/fracturing increases massively

he knows what he's talkin about pete,the materials for a set of blades was gonna be about £320 from memory and the machining about £200.expensive i know but it they where from a 10" machine

We have been dealing in chippers for many years. We stopped supplying copy blades about 7 years ago. Feed back from customers told us they wern't as good. We found that original blades rarely crack under normal use, only when hitting large pieces of steel wrongly fed into the machine, copy parts will sometimes crack under normal use, they also loose there edge alot quicker. my opinion is that wood chippers are designed around the chipping system, the blades and anvils, blade size, shape, grade of steel and hardening process are a large part of the machine development, why change this ? The only advantage to copy blades is a small saving on purchase price. i think an important factor is blade life, sharpening intervals.

I use both TW and 'identical copy' Saturn machine blades and have done for the last 4 years and have found no difference whatsoever in blade life wear. As for blades cracking well maybe those made from a mix of milk bottle tops and solder wire and purchased from some door to door traveller might... otherwise its total bullshit

The softer knives are better if your doing roadside stuff where theres gravel/rocks around and the hard set are better on landclearing jobs.
