Simple answer is yes, with adequate back up. I don't understand why posters on this site automatically assume police have no go areas around travellers sites. It is simply not true. However they have a responsibility to protect their officers as well as the public, so such entry may have to be postponed untill suffucient resources make it safe to do so. I was a police officer for over 30 years and I NEVER failed to enter such sites when necessary. In fact it was the most enjoyable part of the job, nicking thieving scum like that. As far as following the Tracker signal to their lock up/yard, that is not viable as you don't know where they may be going. They might abandon the item to return later. If they then disappear into a built up area or even a crowded traveller site (Oh no!!!) you've lost your prisoner, evidence, conviction, prison sentence (hopefully) and the satisfaction of catching them in the act. No brainer really.

Not true Peter, I know of at least two sites, 1 in Kent one in Surrey that the Police will not enter to recover stolen vehicles. Absolutely disgusts me!

A few years back now I used to do Gypsy camp evictions, go up and serve papers, normally alone and then when time up carry out the evictions. Backed up by tow vehicles, extra bailiffs, and hordes of Police - it used to amaze me how many coppers wouldn't enter the sites.

Apart from a bit of banter never had any trouble.

I went and collected our quad today and wished I hadn't! It turns out it was towed for the first 10 miles by its front rack, the ignition and half the wiring was ripped out most of the plastic panels are cracked, the front and rear logic boxs are gone the rifle grips are smash off and for some reason all 4 tyres which were put on a month ago are covered in some form of acid also acid on the seat and frame, it looks a right bloody state I almost wish they had torched it!!. I don't understand why they had to wreck it surly it would have been worth more to them in good condition?

the trade he didn't mention i noticed was of course..... thievery.... it's their oldest trade isn't it!!
