Husky 254 question

Hi all

Got given a 254xp back last summer, supposedly a non runner but I got it started straight away with a bit of fresh fuel.

Anyway it needs a new chainbrake, clutch spring and a couple of other bits.

The problem I've got is the clutch cover is metal instead of the usual plastic.

I've tried standard 254 bits and they don't fit, I even bought a whole clutch cover/brake assembly on ebay and it doesn't fit.

Can anybody tell what this saw is and the best way to scource the parts for it.

Forgot to say, the top cover and flywheel cover are both plastic.

As I recall all 245 clutch covers were cast ally. Shed loads of parts on fleebay . just type in 254 or husqvarna chain saw and then narrow it down after that . It was theeee bread and butter saw ion the woods when I was youg , about a long time ago . Still a cracking saw though I.M.H.O.

I owned and used a 254 for a couple of years, it had the air injection side cover but no decomp and it has a plastic side cover. Currently got one for sale on the shelf and it to has a plastic cover but has a couple of tabs on the side opposite the bar mount to locate it that the earlier one didnt.

My thinking it is a very early side cover on a later model 254.

Get the part number off the cover and search for it - that should help.

Good saws:thumbup:

Thanks for all the replies so far

I did get hold of a plastic side cover a while back and cut the lugs off, it still doesn't fit too well but more importantly the clutch is a different size so the chainbrake still wouldn't work.

Bob, if you happen to have a spare lying around it would be really handy.

Spud, I can get the part number from the cover, anywhere online with parts lists at all?

Stubby, unlike you I've only ever seen/owned 254's with plastic covers, still a great saw wish I had never sold mine.

Not sure I followed the part number bit but there is usually a date code on the plastic and metal parts which hopefully will match the rest of the saw and also a part number beginning 501,503,507 etc and is in the format

503 xx xx-xx

Hopefully one of these will have your cover - sorry, I don't have a spare cover!
