I agree with TreeQuip on this one, LA's are nervous about recommending contractors for legal reasons though on the quiet they do point people in certain directions depending on each contractors squill level.

Also for those that have done call out at 2am in the pouring rain with gale force winds to sort out a tree hung up it can be a real pain in the bum for not that much reward. Also if on the list it does not mean you will pick up other contracts.

To see if it's worth going onto the list check with the council (FOI) who has all the emergency call outs and the rates paid in the last 24 months. Some councils officials are honest and some have free supplies of firewood at home.

 

It's the same with normal felling contracts and I should not state more on here.

Im ny experience of working for the council (property maintenance and scrub clearance) you dont have to be CIS regestered BUT IF YOU ARE NOT THEY WILL TAKE AN ADDITIONAL 20% OFF OF YOUR INVOIVE TOTAL!!!!!!!!!!!! Hence my post that you need to be regestered as I dont know about you but I couldnt afford to lose 20%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't lose the money, your just get in credit with the taxman.

 

I have a letter from the taxman saying my work is agricultural and as such I'm except :big grin:

I assume you do split your invoice up with regards to what you are earning and what you have spent out ie fuel, equipment, tipping etc. CIS only applies to your earnings, not any expenses.

Its actually only labour, so I think you could also make a charge for use of any tools, which again would not be subject to deduction.

Fair point, I was just trying to make people aware that there might be a problem with reguard to their profits if they wernt CIS regestered, as I found out when the council tried to take 20% off of me without even mensioning that I should be CIS regestered! Sorry for the confusion.........
