I had a 051 with 25in blade mine felt slow heavy and under powered compared with the 039 I paid £150 for. The saw came with 20in 325 chain and flys with this on ( should be 3/8 ) Not sure if you could run 25" of 325 or not. My 051 although had good compression may have been faulty as others sound like they have a better experience.

Heavy, yes, very. Shouldn't be slow though - compared with a 660 which is about the same .cc yes, but mine is significantly faster than my 044 (and no, the 044 isn't knackered:001_smile:)

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep them coming though! :001_smile:

Leading the way so far is an offer of a 272XP which is very tempting. I think that's about 70cc right...? :001_huh:

I'm going to look around for an 044 / MS440 / 046 / MS460 for a week or 2 but assuming that none come up in my price range [which I doubt one will] I reckon I'll try out one of these filthy Husky things....:001_tongue: Not used one since I did my CS31 in 1999 so it could be quite an experience! :001_cool:

Bit more than I wanted to spend and a bit bigger than I need really.

The biggest stuff I will probably need to tackle with it are 4' to 5' diameter Oak at the most, so I don't really need something capable of knocking down a Redwood!

If I can find something on a 20" bar for which I can add a 25" later for the very occasional big fell that should be plenty....

You would be really lucky to get a good 70 plus cc saw for £200 ish. I would think carefully about buying a second hand saw off ebay etc. If I was you, I'd save a bit of money and buy a new 372xp (about £450 plus VAT) Will take a 24" bar all day. A proven good quality saw.

Sounds like my 051 was knackered. I did not have a lot of faith in the 039 but its turned out at least once a week for a solid 8 hours of dicing 18in beech and its not missed a beat in 2 years apart from vibrating two exhausts off. It was 8 years old when I got it.
