Clutch slave cylinder on my Defender let go on the Norwich ring road.

Seemed an easy fix and I was about 2 minutes walk from JSF (the local landie guys).

New slave cylinder £35, all looking good, until, whilst fitting it I noticed that the pushrod that sits behind it didn't seem to be attached to anything.

Phoned the RAC and told them I would need a recovery. They said one of their guys would have to come and look at it first. I said no point, I know what's wrong with it, they said one of their guys would have to come and look at it.

I pointed out that since I knew what the fault was, and that it could not be fixed at the roadside, could they please just send a recovery wagon.

2.5 hours later they turned up, and an hour later the RAC guy decided that, yes I had bled the system through properly and that it couldn't be fixed at the roadside.

Then all I had to do was wait for the recovery vehicle I'd originally asked for.

Goodbye Thursday, I would have liked to have known you better.
