Hello

I have this pile of Beech for sale(cut late Nov). I'm guesstimating it to be about 15 tonne ( please correct me if you think this is wrong) I need to shift it as I now have too much wood to deal with! I'd also like to shift some of the Birch in the photo too(cut early this year). it's in 2m lengths. I'm again guessing there's more than 5 tonne there. Price wise I'd like £50 a tonne for it please. would really like it to go in one hit also. Everything under the green tarp is staying tho!:001_smile:

Pm for more details

Thankyou

I reckon the birch is worth more than the beech - the big discs are difficult to handle. I'd gun for £40 for the birch and maybe £30 for the beech.

Why do you rate birch above beech. I have a pile of birch but have never sold it as logs is it faster drying or better burning. I thought it went soft if left out for a year ?

I don't - both pretty equal in my eyes. :thumbup1:

I do however rate nice straight cord wood over mahoosive great discs! :laugh1:

I appreciate the advice given gents. I wasn't sure what to price it at, so thankyou for the help on that:001_smile:

I think I'll keep the wood, split it and try selling it to some of my customers and friends etc over the next couple of years.Where I am seems to be flooded with log suppliers, 2 people especially seem to have the monopoly over the area. It was only ever a project that would keep the bills paid over winter etc. I just seemed to collect a lot more wood than I could deal with at the time! The other reason for trying to shift everything in one go was to put a deposit down on a new (to me ) chipper.

However, It now gives me more incentive to make sure my product is the best in my area and even though I realise I can't take on the big boys I can still make a decent turn over with what I've already accumulated. Like everything, It's just going to take a bit longer than expected!:001_smile:

Failing that I'll have enough firewood to keep me warm for a while!

If you have quite a few suppliers in your area, perhaps it is best to try keep it for yourself. Very poignant quote from Tom D the other day:

"Firewood - selling the unprofitable to the ungrateful"

Very true indeed!

Get the birch cut, split and under cover with good airflow otherwise it will just rot.
