tw125 vs 150

Aye the red thing is BS.

I don't think anyone here thinks the 125 is as fast as a 150, and you do need to sned a bit more, but in a fair few domestic applications the 125 is a more handy machine.

If you stack to chip, which we generally do the 125 can fill the Tranny twice in an hour, which is normally a fair days work.

Anything bigger than a 150 run with a 3.5 tonner is overkill I reckon.

On an average day we put more petrol through the saws than the chipper.

Red diesel can be used for plant that is a load of rubbish

Re: Rebated duty fuel ----RED DIESEL----

HMRC notice 75

8.3 Tractors

To qualify as an excepted vehicle, the tractor must be an agricultural tractor designed and constructed primarily for use otherwise than on roads. It must be used on public roads solely for:

a) purposes relating to agriculture, horticulture or forestry,

b) cutting verges bordering public roads, or

c) cutting hedges or trees bordering public roads or bordering verges which border public roads.

10. Appendix

Memorandum of Agreement in respect of the use of agricultural vehicles on the road

In addition to use for purposes relating to agriculture, horticulture or forestry, agricultural tractors and agricultural material handlers may also be used for:

a) cutting verges bordering public roads

b) cutting trees or hedges bordering public roads or bordering verges which border public roads.

so if you work in gardens etc ware the trees are NOT bordering public roads or bordering verges which border public roads then you should be on DERV and not red.

If you get pulled by vosa and they dip your tank you will get fined i dont make the rules i get done by them so do it at your own risk.

The chances of having a chipper tank dipped is tiny but as your using it on a highway they can nick you.

I think every building site and farm in the country is about to close then mate!

A 150 will run all day on £10 of red diesel but will cost about £15-20 to do the same with my 125, over a year that adds up and that's why I'm looking to get a 150 not to save customer but to save some myself on running costs. But either way a 125 is a good machine

Both good machines although for a self employer tree worker with one groundie .

I'd go for the 125 as said before you are forced to keep blades sharp. Which in turn reduces stress on bearings . The fact that I can push mine over gravel up driveways and over grass is excellent . The 125 is quite good on fuel but on a decent Connie job it gets through some juice . Sometimes because of its weight and size I can get it in some really tight spots . If I had the 150 legal or not I'd run it on red .Most tree gangs round here run theres on red and none have had any problems with PLOD

Well said Paul.

As regards the red diesel thing they'll be saying you can't tow a chipper after you've had a few Stellas next!
