A while back I built a skidding arch to fit behind a walk behind tractor. it worked well until the day that the drive pins sheared due to excessive load. I then converted the arch to ball hitch and use it in work behind a 2005 Polaris Ranger 500, and hope to get a quad at home to run it. here it is in Pengelli Forest NNR, extracting ash for gatemaking.

Nice one.

Just looking at the construction - are they rigid axles without any suspension units? And is there a wire running from the top of the back cross beam to the front? I can't quite see - is it part of the winch or for strength?

 

I was thinking of buying one but might be tempted to give it a bash in workshop

ah I see Now what you mean. I,ve been looking at the Norwood arch -I like the way it self lifts as you move off. Anyone got one or now who,s the agent in the uk?

Rigid axles and wheels from an old static caravan, and the wire isn't for strength, just a jungle wire to allow whippy stuff to slide over the top of the arch without snagging.

I do it for the wood. I work in Castell Henllys, the iron age hillfort next door to pengelli, so i get to use whatever timber i need so long as i'm tidy about it, plus i have a section that i'm thinning for personal timber/firewood for sale.
