If its new can you not get them to build it with a higher hitch, so you don't need a pickup hitch???

To put the chipper on the front you don't need to change the chipper. Just need a front PTO, reversing gear box (Atkinson Vos) and a Schmidt plate.

Wish I'd done that in the first place!

For any sort of trailer work I would go for at least a 1700 alot of things are more heavy duty. You will move up to proper 10 stud axles. I remember looking into the u1000 and the towing capacity is very low even compared to the u1200.

As long as you're in a unimog, nothing else matters!

A proper mog. What I should have said was 150bhp with 10 stud axles. I think 1700 and up were fitted as standard with 10 stud axles.
