Any ideas welcome here.

I have to fell about 25 doug firs, whic at 42' length need to have a top diameter of 16", so they are going to be fairly lumpy. they will get skidded to ride-side; the ride itself has just been put in and is massive, in preparation for alot more forestry (nowt to do with me BTW), and the final destination is only about 500yds up the road. I have had a few ideas, including even dragging up the road!!!!! However even though it is a tiny back road that rarely sees any traffic, this is not an option.

Any ideas more ideas, wacky or otherwise? :001_smile:

thats a fair lump of wood Tom, and you have to keep them in 1 piece!!

you either do it ligit and get a hiab in and 12' can hang over the back or you do it yehaa style,:laugh1: a 100hp plus tractor, strop it onto back arms, lift and steer with the independent brakes if need be.

ideally big tractor, mog and a winch to get it off the deck and then push, roll into place.:001_cool:

What's the ground like? Obviously not like old growth logging but big timber nonetheless and as above, wouldn't wish it on you but you might have to scrape some layouts for the trees?

Are you topping them first?

Hi-ab on a full length artic would be legit. Would get the lot in about 3 or 4 loads. Very low mileage, so you might get a deal at around £350-400 with a bit of effort.

Less legit - the axle as a DIY trailer route would be viable. A double-wheel transit back axle would be my favourite - fairly easy to come by complete with wheels and tyres on ebay - I bought a couple for £50 each to move my boat about (7.5tons). The transit axles are rated at 900kg/wheel, so 3.6tons on the axle, i.e. no problem taking the weight. 500m up the road - take say 5mins/run? I'd be inclined to have a couple of mates with mobiles stationed about 10mins up the road in each direction to let you know when you're good to go. I would also be inclined to have someone following with hazards on. Firstly for safety, secondly if you were unlucky enough to be spotted then lenient Old Bill might let you off if it looks like you're taking precautions.
