Down rating an iveco from 4.6 to 3.5

Hi all, mate who does a bit of local odd jobbing has offered us his iveco daily, it's a very well looked after van but im guessing you would need category c1 on your licence? Just a few questions if I may.

It's gross weight is 4.6, is it worth down rating to 3.5?

What is involved in the down rating process?

Are they any good as arb/traffic management trucks?

If it is too much bother to get it sorted then we won't bother, but if it's an easy task then we will buy it.

Any help please.

we used to have a 5 tonner that was down rated to 3.5t and it was great, except it would only carry around 850kg plus driver and full tank of diesel. That was a hightop van so don't know how different a tipper would be.

Other than the lowish carrying capacity, it was great. powerful, good brakes, handled weight very well and towed brilliantly.

You don't need to downrate it, just downplate it which is a lot simpler. Fill in a form and send it off, job done.

To run it at 4.6 tonne you would need C1 or C on your licence, and an O licence.

The main disadvantage to downplating as others have said is you will have virtually no payload.

Which form is it? As I we have to down plate the 6.5 tonner to 6 as our chipper is 2.2 tons and didn't realise the little 106 after the c1 on the licence restricts our train weight to 8.250
