Your opinion needed...

Last week we had a newly qualified guy help us for a few days, on the third day it got quite warm (30 degrees +) and he ended up lying in the shade most of the afternoon. I think he got sun stroke, he insisted on working topless (which I don’t really like) and didn’t put any sun screen on. He did look quite sick and ended up throwing up.

Guess what I would like to know is, would you pay him for the day or just for the morning as he wasn’t no good for 5h in the aft?

Your opinion please

Pay him for the work he did and tell him you'll give him some advice as a free bonus payment. It sounds like he did simply not turn up prepared. If it's hot, wear a thin top, apply copious sunscreen and wear a hat. If you're wearing a helmet fill the gap between the harness and the shell with a wet towell and keep it wet.

If you reckon he could not work because he did not look after himself well enough it's his own fault.

Give the lad a chance, was he trying really hard to impress? Guys new to tree work trying to keep up with old hands will rarely manage. If he was just being lazy forget it but if he worked himself sick sounds like he's keen.

I agree, no mention how he performed or the quality of his work for the other 2.5 days. I can remember having a bad day one scorching afternoon and i actually had to leave sight and dive into the nearest tescos to cool off.

If his attitude was off fair enough , your not looking for a hero remember just a good honest working lad.

He should have gone home if he was that sick. Happens to the best (although very rarely). Happened to me once (sick not sunstroke) 3 days into starting a job. Was obvious I had to go home, and wouldn't have been much use hanging around for the day. Would definitely not pay him though. I wouldn't expect it either if I was in his position.

ecotreecare I think this story is BS. It never gets to 30+ degrees in Dunedin :001_tt2:
