There isn't a hitch that will work effectively with out over tightening on a SRT line. That's where the RW comes in, Same for mechanical devises not including the unicender which I think is the only bit of kit designed for tree work for ascent descent and work positioning. Your hitch or device will certainly hold you but it will be very hard to move.

so... had a go with the rope wrench today..... wow! its awsome!

 

Did notice a couple of things though, my prussic seems to bit quite hard, does this mean i need to adjust the bushes closer together on the wrench so it takes more friction or do i just need to get used to it?

 

Also when i was ascending with a micro frog variation, the wrench seemed to bunch up on the top of the hitch and jam it up, any advice?

I would say use a better knot. Prussic is a rubbish hitch. Look at the knot guide on here and try the distel and Valdotian.

Hopefully you've got a micro or HC pulley under your hitch.

I use a vt with 3raps and 2 crossovers or a knut with 3 raps, yes i tried both hitchclimber and pinto, i liked the pinto as the wrench is facing away ( tether on the out side).

Are you clipping anything into the RW to pull it up the line? I have just switched my tether for a Dmm thimble thingy and now clip into that. I will be changing my system over to a knot on the weekend for a reccy climb as there will already be a RW LJ setup so i'll see what i find.

What does the thimble do that a bit of starter cord girthed onto the RW cant? Cost pennies as well. Thats what I use on the eye of my unicender.

Nout but it was a free gift from my local arb shop. Works really well and being fixed and not starter cord the crab pops straight through quickly.

I used a short sling to attach the RW to my hand ascender, as i went up the line the RW seemed to sit on top of my hitch creating some friction, maybe i had my tether too short, will have a bit of a play around today and see what i can do

Hi Craig i never clip to my hand ascender, just strop over my shoulder and into the wrench.
