wear your poppy with pride

TBH, I put some money in the box this year, but did not take a poppy, I don't want it to be a thing thats expected, I would soon people do it because they want to, both my daughters (7 and 9) wanted to wear them, which was great!!!

We keep a big old bells whiskey bottle (you know, the huge one) and put all our coppers in it over the year for poppy day and other stuff. This year I sent my boys into school with a purse each jam packed with coppers and instructed them to put the whole lot in for thier poppy. Needless to say both came back with a poppy and a bulging purse. We did have a long talk about it but they are only 4 and 6 and I have to admire their business skills! The coppers went in next day with the taxi driver.......

 

It's not so long ago is it that Europe was at war. Not long at all. When you think how lucky we are to have missed conscription by a generation or 2. It doesn't bear thinking about. God bless those brave soldiers who gave us the chances we have today and god bless those who continue to do so.

Bit of a 'moment' today in F1. Vettel in the press conference (on pole dammit) with JB and Lewis either side, both wearing poppies. Struck me as a bit symbolic in some way. Dunno.

Don't just wear your poppy but stop and think for a minute and remember what was given by others in order for us to have what we have today. Thanks to all those who have served and are still serving.

Yes Lyn, thanks for that, even though I 've got through a few poppys, dont think they are meant to be worn for manual work! Stopped my truck in the middle of the road on Hadrians wall, for the 2 min silence, and didnt see another car.

Just got back from Afghan 4 weeks ago. Last post was a bit emotional, the support is really important - thank you all.

Our member of the local VFW was in front of our local Wal-mart this afternoon and I secured my poppy and thanked him for his service. He was very great full as am I for all past present and future defenders and protectors of freedom.
