Just reading through the latest FJ (November 2011) and on pages 18&19 is an article called "under the hammer" about a firewood auction in Northumberland.

The journalist describes the day and then states: "It is becoming well known that a full builders bag will contain approximately 1m3 of material. The barrow bags of hardwoods offered by ........, upon measurement, appeared to contain slightly less than 0.5m3."

WTF! Have they been looking on eBay for inspiration?!

Surely the author / editor should know something about woodfuel industry?? It really pees me off when you read a trade magazine and you know that the journalist hasn't got clue!

Rant over!

News papers are worse. When you read in print something that is nothing like what you actually said.

I had an artical in a local free issue by monthly magazine on my buisness this month that was titled.

Center of Eccelence for Home Farm Stoves Ltd.

That is exactly how they spelt excellence !!, I complained and they are now running it again.

I am going to drop them an email just to make them aware of the mistake so hopefully it won't happen again.

It may seem petty to someone outside of the firewood game but when you spend so much time explaining to customers the difference between volume and weight, and how you don't get a tonne of wood in a tonne bag, and my tipper dimensions are 2.7x2.0x0.3= 1.62m3, etc, etc, etc..... It really has wound me up!!
