what scale do you think is right for the following. round by me i recon:

poor groundie - £50

good groundie - £60/70

new climber - £75/80

average climber - £100/120

v good climber - £130/150 (more for really hard jobs say upto £200)

is this similar to elsewhere in uk?

my groudies are on £60 and £100 per day both self employed. both are great at the job. i wouldnt use a poor groundie (false economy). if i sub for someone as a climber its between £180 to £200 sometimes more depending on what im doing. im flexible on that though.

Depends on area..where are you, bill?

Two years ago, I was paying £50 / day for non climbing chainsaw operator employees with less than 1 years experience, that was Notts. I was due to up it to £60/day for one, but he wanted £100/day, and left.

I do some work as a last resort for a bloke here in Lincs, as a self employed chainsaw hand (ground only); he'll only pay £8/hour. I think ground staff round here would struggle to get more than £50/day as employees.
