Woodburners

I reckon pretty much everyone on here must have a woodburner so I'm after some advice. I want one for a barn conversion, quite open plan so needs to be pretty big. Which makes/ models do you recommend? Efficiency is key (price too of course), so I'd like one that shuts down tight rather than raging away all night like some I know of. Would welcome your thoughts.

I've been offered a Villager A, 16kw in pretty decent nick, anyone got one of these, and is it any good?

Thanks all.

Villager are pretty (ahem) 'budget' shall we say. Innefficient and hard to shut right down in my experience.

These stoves are the nicest and most efficient I have come across. My parents have had a couple and the friends i have recommended them to have been VERY happy with them. they are very very efficient stoves, and the glass stays clean too.

1) Buy a stove whose maximum output is just enough for your room when the outside temp is about 0 - 5 degrees celsius.

2) Try to run your stove flat out at all times

3) Sort out your insulation so that you do not need to leave the stove 'ticking over' overnight.

4) Never buy a cast iron stove.

I think it is asking the impossible to get a good cheap stove, you basically get what you pay for. Decent second hand ones don't seem to come about too often either and if they do they fetch damn near as much as a new one! Invest in one of these Clearview Woodburning Stoves- UK, wood burning stoves, multi fuel stoves and smoke control stoves you won't regret it:thumbup1:

Model wise if you are considering a 16kw stove then it's the clearview 750. Bite the bullet and spend the extra money and you'll have years of trouble free heating, don't buy cheap chinese makes, false economy, they don't last and the seals are rubbish

Thanks everyone, good info there. I think I'll go for a higher quality 12kw to keep it in budget. Any good or bad experiences with twin wall flue makes? Should be pretty straightforward, 6m rise with 2 45 degree bends to dog leg through a wall. Most 12kw stoves can take 6", which will also help keep it affordable.

villagers are good quality and very well made- a flue damper enables them to be shut right down. shop around on the net as prices vary alot. i got one from somewhere in wales- a few hundred off list price:thumbup1:
