I would say complacency and not thinking/rushing causes more saw accidents, however you should always have in your mind the fear of the damage a saw can do to you - they dont do little cuts! This fear should be combated by competnace in the use of the saw and thinking through every cut!

does anyone hav any advice on having no fear of chainsaws ?

Tell you what, I'll put your hand in a vice and drop a running 200T onto your wrist. Reckon you'll have no fear as the chain comes down?

You've already posted about nutting the chipper chute through lack of attention. I suggest you cut out the gung-ho macho 'i'm not scared of chainsaws' crap and start to concentrate.

He wouldn't have fear of the saw, just the situation he has been put in by the maniac who has trapped his hand in a vice and is about to drop a running MS200T on to it.

Using a situation like that to make him fearful of saws is like saying you should be fearful of guns. Its not the guns you should be fearful of, its the people with there finger on the trigger. Nuggsy has no fear of saws because saws are inanimate objects just like guns....incapable of harm unless they are used in a reckless fashion. I thought you pro gun lobby people would understand that.

What is being said is that we should all have an element of fear for chainsaws, not all things are caused by the person using it some things are out of your control e.g. felling an oak tree and it falls over backwards, softrot no holding wood how could you know. you can not allways read a saw is going to kickback.:001_smile:
