Ripped/ruptured tendons

Just wondered if anyone can offer some advice or experienced similar.

 

I'm used to many of the usual pains associated with the job and life etc but this is now getting me down.

 

Back in July I had a particularly hard off whilst competing in an enduro and landed on my left shoulder/upper arm. I carried on because it wasn't too bad and could ride but at the end of the day I couldn't move my upper arm at all. The only way to move it was to lift it with my good arm.

 

Working wasn't too bad and climbing ok as lower arm worked perfectly. After a month I went to the Dr and he told me that I'd bruised it etc. Oh there was a lump at the top of my arm too which he said was a cyst.

 

It got worse with the pain at night unbearable and about a month of little sleep. Going a over t in the shower put me back to square one and the Dr again. Different Dr who told me ripped tendons and the lump is where a rupture is. Painkillers which immediately worked for a while but the pain at night still keeps me awake and groaning to myself:001_smile:

 

I've now been told by a completely unconnected person that the only way to cure this is surgery which should have been done long ago to be successful.

 

Has anyone done anything similar? Have you lived with it? Does it get better?

 

Sorry about long-winded post and any comments/advice greatly appreciated.

Surgery may indeed be your best option at this time. I would also get at least Two more opinions as well. I once had some frayed cartilage in my knee and did not require any surgery for the recovery, however did have to incorporate a lot additional stretching Twice a day for 3 months. It did heal on it's own from that point and have had no problems since. Hope you get it sorted out sooner than later, really tough to function with out a good nights sleep!

Get third, fourth and even fifth opinions on it because some doctors really can be useless and are so used to dealing with hypochondriacs that they just dont care anymore, so fob you off with bullshit painkillers.

 

That's the impression I get from them and it makes you feel you shouldn't really be bothering them so I tend to stay away as much as possible.

 

So who do I go to for a second etc opinion? Privately I assume or maybe some kind of sports medic.

 

Thanks for replies. I have to get something sorted as the lack of sleep is doing me in.

you're so right about doctors

they say men don't go to docs enough but when we do we get crap so not surprising then

sorry to hear this graham, I find ibuprofen to be a great remedy for this sort of injury, mucular/tendon as it is an anti inflammation.

 

Do stretch it out, and keep the tendons supple and try a pressure dressing, some good sports wraps are avaliable on the net, the neoprene ones are great
