David, personally I am my own hse ruler!

I'm less interested in hse talk an more people's accidents!

But! :P

As you said earlier about tickets being so easy and amount of people with no common sense in our trade these days would you not be happier knowing that first aid to a arb specific criteria was compulsory at all levels from word go!!!

On a lighter note the hs manager at a job let me on site without induction for an hour to survey some trees with a colleague, I turned around and cracked my knee of a small bollard, anyway, the managers face when I signed out an asked how I put in a claim about not being warned about the bollards!

Made me chuckle!!

I almost never posted either but i have a big gob and cant help myself

I think we all do what we have to do but its getting to the point of being so expensive to keep up that its also killing us off because we still get paid the same and get shat on from greater heights at every turn. Catch 22 is a term that is fast becoming very common in our job.

I am not knocking first aid in any way at all, in fact its an essential part to be prepared for the worst. Just the HSE regs getting in the way of our living is what is my big gripe.

As for your joke on the manager yes i would have been the same with a giggle but the problem is that could so easily have become a claim if you were that type of person, which in turn would make life even harder... and these things happen unfortunately.

Yep it could, I am of the younger generation and it pisses me off the amount of people who will seek ways to claim, I know of loads of whiplash, slips etc people have claimed for!!

Like you say it only hits us in the pocket, some people can't comprehend that the claim money doesn't come from trees!!

So far: 3 silky cuts all requiring stiches (17 in total)

In all cases first aid applied in tree, self decended, and drove myself to A&E.

The most painfull was stapling my middle finger tendon to the bone with a hawthorne spine. The recovery time was double the time of the silky cuts, 9 weeks

Oh man that sounds real sore. I got hawthorned yesterday a few times but just the usual annoying punctures, yours wins for hawthorn stories so far that i have heard.
