Anyway, that bark, is it evergreen angiosperm or evergreen gymnosperm as i have absolutely no clue what-so-ever:blush:

Me (and Collins :biggrin:) would say P. smithiana, given the length of the neeedles and the tapered tip of the cone.

Not so much a guessing game this one Rob but a really interesting find in a Southampton city park (very rare apparently). Following on from Apple v Pear I can now see what you mean about the upright habit - thanks :thumbup1:
