Me (and Collins ) would say P. smithiana, given the length of the neeedles and the tapered tip of the cone.

Not so much a guessing game this one Rob but a really interesting find in a Southampton city park (very rare apparently). Following on from Apple v Pear I can now see what you mean about the upright habit - thanks
