Just ordered mine today from Amazon.com, came to £44.49 all in. Crazy that you can get it delivered from the other side of the Atlantic for less than you can get it in the UK. And they wonder the economy is fecked!

I just bought the axe and hatchett for £70 all in from Amazon , superb deal , I was wondering why you buy a sharpener I was always led to believe a blunt axe was better for splitting timber .

Slightly blunt is fine with a maul, but the X27 uses speed rather than mass. It likes a good edge.

Two comments on that: they're very, very good but the steel is a bit mediocre - so they lose their edge easily. And the sharpeners are pants.

Off to Seattle in a few weeks. Think I'll get myself one of their new mauls while I'm out there.

You don't need any fancy sharpeners for the Fiskers axe. The steel is soft enough to sharpen with a good fine file and finish off with a fine stone just make sure you keep the angle the same.

I've not had any problems using the Fiskars sharpener. Although I don't think it would cope too well with a really knackered edge.

got 3 - x27, hatchet and an inbetween size, cant remember which, for around £100 + postage. Arrived just over a week later.

Only problem is I am away for another couple of weeks before I can play with them, but then again the pile of rings aint going anywhere :-)
