I could sell you some for £35 a tonne, roadside. Its been down since June, its ash and I'm in Northants, so not sure what the haulage would be. Depends on where you are.

Shame I have just bought most if not all of the cord I will need for 12-13, I am between Northampton and Rugby so maybe 15 miles, pm me your details for the future please. Delivery costs are always an issue, its very expensive running a 44 tonner, Nick Channor could do the haulage at a fair rate but he is some way away. Maybe there is someone more local to you with a crane timber trailer or a 8x4.

buy it all in got 100 tonne ordered waiting for the estate woodsman to crack on with it and get felling. could be waiting a while not alot of rush with them lads lol

If you're buying it in & you've run out, the only thing I could suggest is buy more & buy in advance, not exactly earth shattering advice but there you go. I would strongly advise anyone serious about selling firewood to obtain their own woods or the rights to manage one. Much better control of your product, bringing neglected woods back under control & should keep you costs down& ultimately your customers too. Very important in these hard times, you shouldn't have to be rich to be warm!

Good luck.

Natalie do you own your own wood ,or do you manage them for other people . Cord is getting harder to get people that have been in the trade years are struggling to get all they need . I have only been doing firewood for three years and we cut all own but its getting to the point where i am going to buy in for next season but its proving hard to source anything locally at a reasonable price . How much do you sell a year?:001_smile:

Hi Woodchopper,

Yes we have over 200 acres of our own woods, plus we contract for UPM Tilhill across the North East, this work also provides us with a good amount of timber for our firewood & charcoal. We do about 500m3 a year of firewood & allot of charcoal too. Our biggest problem has been processing it all as we've always just done it with saws & a splitter. You may have seen on one of my posts recently, we're just about to start building a processor to speed things up. I can't wait for that!

We will do about 150t this year and its all been split into 1200mm billets and cut up with a haki pilke eagle run off a compact . Ive hopefully got a grant towards a processor but will allso need a bigger tractor to move it around so its a lot of money to set up so will need to start buying cord in and may be hire it out to other firewood merchants .Can you not get a grant towards a processor . cheers
