Or possibly Fraxinus 'Raywood' - a popular variety amongst specifiers. It also falls to pieces allegedly...

 

yep, id second raywood ash (aka claret ash)-got a beautifull row of street trees in cambridge, colours amazing right now, will get a photo on way home tommorrow.

and yep, theyre very brittle, rip outs every half decent wind

I'd say a raywood ash. I tried to explain to a mate of mine yesterday what colours they go and how it's a lovely tree etc etc etc. I realised that I wasn't talking to a tree bloke and he was just looking at me like I'm a bit wierd.:blushing:
