Dave we have all had jobs like this, its just down an ally, i am on holiday, just go and do it my mate will sort it out.:001_rolleyes:

I wouldnt of sent any lads to a job like that or gone myself with out a lot of information and a minimum amount of money put in my bank before i set off.

They have their rules and they stick to them, i am starting to be more like bigger companies and take the ' what i think is right ' approach out of jobs.

Glad your mate got it sorted though:thumbup1:

I have found over the years thats tricky little jobs that seem like a pain can often lead to much bigger, better jobs.

Lets say this guys business grows hugely in the years to come and he's thinking of buying a fleet of chippers and other plant, if a firm has gone out of their way to provide outstanding service, they will be top of his list, even if they aren't necessarily the cheapest.

Fixing that machine was not going to be a "fixed price" job, so I am surprised that a dealer left the guy hanging out to dry!

Maybe there was a good reason for them not attending that we are not privvy too.

Hi All,

Indeed there was a valid reason why we could not attend. The machine was on a public site (footpath I believe) and the repair necessary to get the machine moving under its own power was not feasible. Basically there was a risk of oil spillage on a public footpath, and that would be a recipe for disaster!

A machine like this needs to be recovered to a more suitable location prior to draining hydraulics etc. There are better (and cheaper) alternatives to Orange Plant recovering a machine, and that's what I believe the customer ended up doing.

I hope this explains the situation to anybody reading this thread as it is never Orange Plant's intention to leave a customer 'hanging out to dry'. We will always try to meet a customers requirements, but unfortunately that is not always possible.

Kind regards,

Lee James

I'm no expert on chippers or bussiness management, but...

Surely leaving someone else to sort it is a much worse recipe for disaster.

You say you didn't want to touch it because of the risk of oil spillage so you(the experts?) left it for someone else(probably not the experts?), seems like avoiding responsibilities to keep a clean record to me.

What is so difficult about putting some spill protection in place? Could you not have put some oil-absorbant mats, (or a sheep-footbath, works well on small machines), was there really no solution?

And finally, if you really could not fix it where it was, why not help the guy recover it to where you could fix it, or at least give hime some advice on how to do it?

that sure is a whole lot of assumptions you are making right there.

Hi 'Rover',

I appreciate your comments, and could understand why you came to the logical conclusions from the facts you have at hand.

Needless to say there were offers made with regards to possible assistance for recovery (i.e. we loaned a pallet truck to move chipper). However as I'm sure you would understand this all comes at a price, and we can only offer the best solution and the price. At the end of the day it is up to the customer where they spend their money, and what option they choose.

I would just like to emphasis to any existing or potential customer that we will do all possible to assist our customers, but still have to work with some restrictions based on each situation.

Anyone who wishes to discuss any matters may call or email me privately anytime.

Kind regards,

Not a single one? I just asked questions based upon the info available.:confused1:

All I did was ask a load of questions, wich I would have were I to be in the market for one of their machines. This gives him a chance to answer them and put (potential) customers at ease as well as clarify why they acted as they did.

Mr James has now done so and hopefully fixed a bit of his (in my eyes damaged) reputation by clarifying why they made the decisions they did.:thumbup1:
