Been assessed and that is apparently how much the rest of my training including the test will cost. A day and a half plus test fees. Is it worth it? I Know most chippers weigh more than 750kg but is it worth getting if I will eventually go on to get C1/C +E?

What will it cost to go straight to the C1+E or C+E?

If I remember rightly the 3 companies I spoke to charged around £1100 for just Cat C course. Im not sure if the course for a 7.5ton rigid towing a trailer over 750kg is the same as an arctic course though. If it is it would be about £2000 I think. I may be wrong about the towing with a cat C though ill wait to be corrected :001_rolleyes:

IMO no.

Depends on your circumstances though.

I was lucky enough for my employer to put me through C1/C +E(class 1+2) It's the most useful qual i have.

My advice would be to save a bit more cash and go big:thumbup1:

If you do C+E its worth driving a few weeks a year, such as holidays from regular job. To replace your outlay.Don't forget every day you have off training is a days lost pay as well. Then hgv drivers have to have cpc training of 5 days in 5 years, again, and then same the next 5yrs, for the self employed and probably many employed no pay on them days .

Plus all tachographs fitted from April 06 (I think) are digital which is another outlay every 5 years for digi card renewal. Calculate the true ongoing costs. I just went for C+E in the mid nineties, I didnt have theory and rigid to do 1st. However if you are definatly doing your truck don't waste money on B+E £450 is probably a cheap B+E assuming a 1st time pass. £450 is a big discount off a C1.

Its useful and gives me a change of work, but I wouldn't do it if I had my time again, especially in todays persecuted driving climate.

A truck driver is just regarded as a sit down labourer and rarely appreciated. Money and conditions more often than not similar to Labouring jobs without high responsibility.

having just done my cat c licence (£1700) which includes initial cpc theory and all tests then £38 for the digital tacho card you can no longer go straight in for your c+e you have to do your cat c first and with scania who i did mine with it is an extra £900 to do c+e on top.

but the bonus as they call it if you have the c licence then you have no theory to pass for c+e

The issue with a b+e licence is that you're still limited to a maximum of 4.5t gross vehicle weight.

Go for the biggest licence you can as you can always get extra work driving if you ever needed to.... The Digi card/cpc/and medical once you hit 45 don't add up to that much when you consider the investments made for tools and equiptment to work in this industry.
